San Pedro de Atacama is a commune of the north of Chile, of the Province of the Loa in II the Region of Antofagasta, located to 2,436 meters on the level of the sea and to 22º 54´ 39.7´´ of South latitude and 68º 12´ 00.2´´ of west longitude (Place of San Pedro de Atacama WGS-84). With a surface of 23,439 km ² and one population of 4,969 inhabitants (2,041 women and 2,928 men), the commune of San Pedro de Atacama welcomes in a 1.01% of the total population of the region, a 61.00% correspond to rural population and 39.00% to urban population (Data Censales 2002). Integra along with the communes of Tocopilla, Maria Elena, Ollagüe and Calama the Electoral District N° 3 and belongs to 2ª Senatorial Circumscription (Antofagasta).
